The Sea Birds house was built by a travelling boat builder and a carpenter, the brothers Meyer Olsen. The Sea Birds contained an area to receive the fish, a general store and the steamship office. The ships were unloaded and loaded out on the fjord and the goods were brought in by flat bottomed boats.
The quay also had a forge and a shed where men hooked bait on the hundreds of fish hooks on the lines, a time-consuming activity that gave space for stories, gossip and time for silence and reflection.
After a big storm in the ’70s with a lot of sea ice putting pressure on the timbers/poles, the sheds and parts of the quay collapsed.
